Emmaus Village resident, Elaine Brown who lives in House 1 stays in touch with her son, Shane, and grandson, Aiden, who live in Canada, via a pre-arranged facetime call every Thursday at 9.30am AEST.
“We set up a computer screen for Elaine so she can connect with Shane and Aiden. Allowing for the time difference it is close to bedtime for her grandson, so it is special time for them all,” says Cath Robinson, the Activities and Events Coordinator at Emmaus Village.
During the call Cath supports Elaine, providing prompts as needed, as she shares the news of her week with Shane. Aiden loves to tell her about his baseball practice or to show her his homework.
“Elaine enjoys the calls immensely. It is wonderful to think that neither distance nor dementia prevent her from maintaining a relationship with her son and grandson,” says Cath.
“It is great to be part of helping her achieve this.”
Elaine looks forward to these regular catch ups, which have become an important part of her weekly routine at Emmaus Village.
