Host interactive music sessions, where residents can sing along, clap their hands or dance, immersing themselves in the delightful world of melodies. Primary purpose of position
Service is at the heart of the vision and mission of St Agnes’ Catholic Parish. The act of volunteering in the service of others is an expression of faith and love that is highly valued in our Parish
The primary purpose of the role is to entertain residents by playing a musical instrument or signing and to engage them in their enjoyment of the music.
Key responsibilities
- Entertain residents by playing a musical instrument or singing (or both)
- Encourage residents to join in by singing, clapping, playing other percussion instruments (provided)
- Engage in conversation with residents regarding music
- All necessary musical instruments for the role will be provided
Skills, abilities and attributes
- The ability to play a musical instrument (piano, guitar, ukulele)
- A keen interest in engaging with residents living with dementia
- A patient, empathetic and non-judgemental approach
- Good communication skills including a clear speaking voice and ability to listen
- Be reliable, consistent and dependable
- Ability to work independently but know when to seek advice or report concerns
Role duration and commitment
We encourage volunteers to stay for a minimum period of one year, to make full use of the training and support offered and give them time to build a relationship with the residents they are supporting. Depending on the needs of the residents, volunteers commit to visit on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, as agreed with staff.
You will need
- Current National Criminal History Record Clearance – SACP will support you to obtain this
- Vaccinations in accordance with Parish policy and/or applicable PHO’s
- NDIS Worker Check or the ability to obtain one – SACP will support you to obtain this
Induction and training
All volunteers are provided with training, orientation and on-going support
